   World Percussion Ensemble

The World Percussion Ensemble aims at giving students the opportunity to learn a variety of rhythms and songs in a group setting. Musical selections are chosen and arranged by drawing inspiration from rhythms from around the world. Popular music and movie scores may also be used in class and to compose performance pieces. Music will be selected by Azure Ensembles based on the size, age range and musical advancement of the participants the class.  

Students do not require any previous musical training to take part in this ensemble.

World Percussion Ensemble 1 (X-PE1)

 

Did you know music is considered a universal language? Using percussion instruments found all around the world, students will explore music like never before! This class draws inspiration from all types of music, such as, western popular music, movie scores, junk percussion and music from around the world. Through a practical hands on method, each participant will learn to play several percussion instruments in an ensemble setting. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to several rhythms in line with the theme of the term. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2) and year end concert; however, single term enrolment is accepted. Upon completion of World Percussion Ensemble 1, full year students will be given a checklist of completed skills for their music portfolio. 

 

Objectives/skills: increased musical awareness, music history and cultural exploration, ability to identify percussion instruments, increased knowledge of musical styles, hands on musical experience on several percussion instruments, identify basic note values, rhythmic exploration, dynamics, time signatures, tempo, introduction to various music notation of the nation of study, expand auditory skills, learn how to follow a conductor/drum leader, incorporate rhythms with song and dance together, improved fine and gross motor skills. 

 

World Percussion Ensemble 1 (X-WE1) 

  • Ages 7-12
  • Classes are 45 minutes long
  • No musical experience is necessary
  • $175 per term or save with $260 full year enrollment - view details HERE
  • Tuition includes instrument rental fee for this class and a music folder. Printed music written by Azure Ensembles will be supplied when applicable
  • Students are encouraged to take notes - please bring a pencil to class
  • This class takes part in the term 2 year end performance in March 2024

Each semester we will highlight various instruments and musical styles based upon the musical selections by Azure Ensembles. Students will have the opportunity to play SOME of the listed instruments:

  • djembes, dunduns, tubanos, frame drums, boom whackers, rhythms sticks, congas, bells, tambourine, shakers, rattles, guiros, trash percussion, xylophone, and more!
